10/5 - 10/6 jaipur, india

And then we arrived in Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, the desert state where kings ruled from oasis forts and raided or protected caravans on the silk route. Again, forts, museums, palaces, monuments, and a wealth of history. A day in India would take a day to describe, so we'll go with pictures.

World's largest sun dial, built by the founder of Jaipur, a guy named Jai (go figure). He was obsessed with astronomy, and especially astrology, which still figures big time in Indian life and decision-making.
World's largest silver jug. One of the Rajput kings made 4 of them so that he could do the unthinkable: leave India. He attended the coronation of one of the British kings, but he would only drink Indian water. Hence the jugs. (He also had boatfuls of Indian livestock and produce.)
GQ magazine? The wife's idea, ok?
Amber fort, one of the strongholds of the Jaipur kings.
Another view of the Amber fort.
A palace built in the middle of a man-made lake. These guys knew how to do it.
A sweet Hindu temple, built to the goddess of money.
Another temple, and me in my new Indian t-shirt. Sweet.
My wife loving the cows in the streets.
Time for some fruit and veg. Where's the supermarket?
